At the end of the month, a refreshed 2020 Honda Civic Type R will begin arriving at dealerships across the United States. The Type R has been a talking point since its debut a couple of years ago, as the hot hatch represents an underrepresented segment on the market. The vehicle combines dynamic performance with everyday driving capabilities, making it a truly unique model. For the 2020 model year, Honda has refreshed its style and added a few other improvements. So, what’s new in the model?

Performance Improvements

Engineers of the Type R made sure to be thinking about all angles when making changes. There are several new design cues that not only enhance the style of the hot hatch but dynamically enhance performance as well. Let’s start at the front, where the Type R has received a new grille design that is 13% larger than the previous design. This not only changes the style of the vehicle but when paired with its new radiator core means the Type R will deliver superior engine cooling in situations that are a little more demanding, such as driving on a track.

The suspension system has been enhanced for superior handling, thanks in part to faster evaluation times with the Adaptive Damper System’s control software. Other enhancements include stiffened bushings all over, new lower-friction ball joints, new two-piece brake rotors, new brake pad materials and more.

Other Design Enhancements

In the cabin, the steering wheel is now wrapped in Alcantara and the shift lever is new thanks to a retro-designed knob and a boot made of suede. As for color options, a new Boost Blue scheme has been added to the available choices you have.

New Technologies

In addition to these other changes, Active Sound Control has also been added to the 2020 Civic Type R. Even more exciting than that, however, is that the entire Type R lineup is now offered with standard Honda Sensing safety tech.
